Philadelphian free-jazz collective Irreversible Entanglements have released a cover of 'Nuclear War' by Sun Ra as part of a tribute album to the legendary composer. The five-piece met through shared interests in music an activism and have been performing politically charged improvised jazz music, led through vast spectrums of sound by vocalist Camae Aywa (Moor Mother). Here they take on Sun Ra's classic 1982 piece and ratchet up the noise and tension, as the reality of nuclear threat looms back into our lives. Irreversible Entanglements shout back louder with even more urgency than before, "If they push that button, Your ass gotta go." The band comment on their interpretation of the track here: “Four billion years into the life our spaceship our planet our Earth, the SUN is the one and only nuclear reactor we have ever needed and will ever need,” Irreversible Entanglements comment. “ALL others represent the violent arrogance of a certain type of lost earthling. Received wisdom of elders comes in many forms, the wisdom song of SUN RA remains potent and relevant for us, it helps teach us how to steer the ship.
